Deolipo: a deoxycholic acid and carnitine solution
Deolipo is an injectable contouring solution that combines deoxycholic acid with carnitine. It is related to the Kabelline (DEXLEVO) formula, which we list separately. Practitioners use it for localised fat contouring.
The only FDA-approved deoxycholic acid injection is Kybella, approved for under-chin fullness. Deolipo is a different product that has not been evaluated by the US FDA. It is for use by licensed professionals only.

What each component does
Deoxycholic acid
Deoxycholic acid is a secondary bile acid. Injected into subcutaneous fat, it damages fat cell membranes, and the body clears the released contents. Kybella is the only deoxycholic acid injection approved by the US FDA, and only for submental fullness.
Carnitine
Carnitine carries fatty acids into the cell’s energy-producing structures. We found no independent trial showing what it adds when injected with deoxycholic acid.
How it works
Deoxycholic acid disrupts the membranes of fat cells in the injected area, and the body clears the released contents. This effect is not selective, so nearby tissue can also be affected. Carnitine is included for its role in fatty-acid handling.

Assess and consent
Confirm the concern is localised fat. Explain the risks below, that results build gradually and vary, and that this is not a weight-loss treatment.

Map the anatomy
For the lower face, locate the marginal mandibular nerve and avoid the vessels and glands. Mark the area.

Prepare the skin and vial
Cleanse the skin. Inspect the vial, seal and expiry, and draw up aseptically.

Inject as instructed
Inject into the subcutaneous fat layer using the depth, volume and spacing in the manufacturer’s instructions.

Plan the course
The number and spacing of sessions follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Aftercare
Warn the patient that swelling, bruising and numbness are common, and to report trouble swallowing, an uneven smile, severe pain or skin changes.
Administration notes
Describe the result honestly. Deolipo is used for localised contouring. It does not treat obesity, and results vary.
- Single use. Discard any remainder after drawing up.
- Do not inject into infected, inflamed or broken skin.
- Dispose of needles into a sharps container in line with local clinical waste rules.
After treatment

Storing and handling Deolipo
Store as stated in the manufacturer’s instructions for use. Do not freeze.
Check the vial, seal and expiry. Do not use a vial that is damaged, discoloured or contains visible particles.
Single patient, single session. Do not retain or reuse an opened vial.
Do not use if the packaging is damaged or the expiry date has passed. Dispose of used vials, syringes and needles as clinical waste in line with local requirements.
