What Profhilo is, and what it is not
Profhilo is an injectable hyaluronic acid treatment from IBSA that is used to improve skin quality and laxity rather than to add volume. Each 2 mL syringe contains 64 mg of hyaluronic acid — 32 mg high-molecular-weight and 32 mg low-molecular-weight — combined into stabilised hybrid cooperative complexes using a heat-based process with no chemical cross-linking agent.
That distinction matters when you choose it. A cross-linked filler sits in tissue and replaces volume. Profhilo is a low-viscosity, spreading gel placed at a small number of points and designed to disperse through the tissue. It is used for skin bioremodelling: improving hydration, elasticity and the look of lax, thin skin on the face and neck.
The manufacturer’s standard approach is the BAP technique — a fixed pattern of ten injection points per face, set away from major vessels and nerves. Most clinics run an initial two-session course about a month apart.
High- and low-molecular-weight HA bound into stable complexes by a thermal process, without chemical cross-linking agents.
A fluid gel designed to disperse after injection, which is why it is placed at few points instead of laid in lines.
Used for hydration, elasticity and the look of lax skin. It is not a filler and should not be sold as one.
IBSA's BAP pattern: five points per side, 0.2 mL per point, deep dermal or subdermal placement.
Why practitioners stock Profhilo
IBSA describes Profhilo as the leading injectable for skin quality in Europe, available in more than 70 countries. Patients often ask for it by name, which shortens the consultation.
Ten fixed points and one syringe per session make treatment time short and easy to standardise across a clinic.
Published work includes a 2022 study of neck roughness and laxity (25 subjects, two injections 30 days apart, assessed at 1 and 4 months) and a postmarketing safety review of Profhilo reports.
It addresses a different problem from volume fillers and toxin, so it combines into a treatment plan instead of competing with either.
Treatment areas and indications
Areas and concerns where Profhilo is used in practice. All are skin-quality indications. The product does not replace volume.
Reduced firmness and elasticity, particularly on the cheeks, temples and jawline, treated using the BAP pattern.
The best-studied area outside the face. A 2022 study treated neck roughness and laxity with two injections 30 days apart.
Skin that has lost its hydration and radiance, where the aim is improved quality rather than structure.
Used alongside toxin or volume filler, with each product addressing a different contributor to ageing.
Profhilo is an injectable medical product. Which indications are permitted and what training is required are set by the regulatory framework where you practise. Korea Filler Experts supplies the product. Nothing here is a recommendation to treat any medical condition, and nothing here replaces manufacturer training or the instructions for use.

What each component does
Why two molecular weights
High-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid holds water and gives the gel its structure. Low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid disperses more readily. IBSA combines them in a thermal process that links the two fractions into hybrid complexes without a cross-linking chemical such as BDDE.
Laboratory work on these complexes reports greater resistance to breakdown by hyaluronidase than either molecular-weight fraction alone, and increased collagen and elastin production in cell models. Laboratory findings do not guarantee a clinical result, and the clinical studies to date are mostly open-label or observational.
Profhilo or a filler?
A cross-linked filler replaces or adds volume. Profhilo is a skin treatment. If the patient’s complaint is hollowing or loss of structure, a filler is the right tool. If the complaint is thin, dull, lax skin quality, Profhilo is the product designed for it.

This page is for the original Profhilo 2 mL syringe. Profhilo Structura is a separate IBSA product with a different intended use and is not covered here.
How Profhilo is used
Reference information for trained practitioners, based on IBSA’s published technique. Training from the manufacturer and the product’s instructions for use take precedence over this page.
Step by step
-
Assess and consent
Confirm the indication is skin quality or laxity, not volume loss. Review medical history, medication and any history of reactions to hyaluronic acid. Explain that visible results develop over weeks.
-
Prepare the skin
Remove all make-up and cleanse thoroughly. Mark the injection points before disinfecting.
-
Mark the BAP points
IBSA’s pattern uses five points per side, ten in total, positioned at a safe distance from major vessels and nerve trunks. Follow the manufacturer’s training for point locations.
-
Inject as boluses
Place about 0.2 mL at each point as a bolus, deep dermal or subdermal. Do not massage the gel into lines or spread it manually unless your training says otherwise.
-
Plan the second session
The usual schedule is two sessions about 30 days apart. Further maintenance sessions are at the practitioner’s discretion and depend on the patient’s response.
-
Aftercare
Advise against pressure on the treated area, heavy exercise, saunas and make-up for the first period set by your protocol. Warn about temporary swelling and palpable lumps at the points.
Administration notes
Lumps are normal and temporary. Because the product is placed as boluses at a small number of points, patients often feel and sometimes see small swellings at those points. They usually settle as the gel disperses. Tell the patient in advance so a normal finding is not mistaken for a complication.
Do not treat Profhilo as a filler. Placing it in volume-deficient areas expecting structural support leads to disappointment.
- Single use. One syringe, one patient, one session. Discard any remainder.
- Do not inject into infected, inflamed or broken skin.
- Do not combine with another injectable in the same pass unless your training covers it.
- Dispose of needles into a sharps container in line with local clinical waste rules.
After treatment
- Redness, swelling and bruising at the injection points are the most commonly reported reactions in the safety literature
- Small palpable lumps at the points are expected and normally settle
- Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas and steam rooms for the period your protocol specifies
- Seek review for severe pain, persistent or spreading redness, or any unexpected lump that grows or becomes tender
Storing and handling Profhilo
Store as stated on the carton and in the manufacturer’s instructions for use, protected from light. Do not freeze.
Check the syringe, seal and expiry. Do not use a syringe that is damaged, discoloured or contains visible particles.
Single patient, single session. Do not keep or reuse a partly used syringe.
Do not use if the packaging is damaged or the expiry date has passed. Dispose of used syringes and needles as clinical waste in line with local requirements.

Profhilo — frequently asked questions
What is Profhilo?
An injectable hyaluronic acid treatment from IBSA for skin bioremodelling. A 2 mL syringe contains 64 mg of hyaluronic acid — 32 mg high-molecular-weight and 32 mg low-molecular-weight — in stabilised hybrid cooperative complexes with no chemical cross-linker.
Is Profhilo a filler?
No. It is a low-viscosity gel designed to spread through the tissue and improve skin quality, hydration and elasticity. It does not restore volume the way a cross-linked filler does.
What is the BAP technique?
IBSA’s injection pattern of five points per side — ten in total — with about 0.2 mL placed at each point as a bolus, deep in the dermis or in the subdermal layer. The points are set at a safe distance from major vessels and nerves.
How many sessions are needed?
The manufacturer’s recommended initial course is two sessions about 30 days apart, followed by maintenance sessions if the practitioner considers them necessary.
How long does it take to see a result?
In the published neck study, subjects were assessed at one and four months after two injections 30 days apart, and the improvement was greater at the later assessment. Individual response varies.
What are the common side effects?
Swelling, redness and bruising at the injection points are the most frequently reported reactions, and small palpable lumps at the points are expected and usually settle. A postmarketing review of reported events found no serious cases among 12 reports, but absence of reports is not proof of safety.
Is Profhilo approved by the FDA?
To our knowledge, no. As of October 2026, no FDA authorisation for Profhilo has been announced. IBSA and Evolus agreed a partnership in July 2026 to pursue US approval. Profhilo is marketed in many other countries, and you are responsible for confirming that it is lawful to import and use in yours.
Is this Profhilo Structura?
No. This listing is the original Profhilo 2 mL syringe. Profhilo Structura is a separate IBSA product.
Can it be combined with botulinum toxin?
It is commonly included in treatment plans alongside toxin because the two address different problems. A randomised clinical trial has studied the combination for upper-face rejuvenation. Sequencing and timing are clinical decisions.
Who can buy and use this product?
Injectable products are for administration by licensed healthcare practitioners. We supply qualified professionals and do not sell to consumers.
